Perched on the 20th floor of the swanky Intercontinental Hotel, Pierre is a one Michelin-starred French restaurant that’s worth seriously considering if you’re looking for a special occasion dinner. Their wine selection is extensive, ranging from vintage champagnes to boutique wines; even their house wine is a rare Bordeaux. Imagine sipping on some of these as you enjoy the sweeping views of Osaka from way up high!

But to the food: at Pierre, you get French cooking techniques and the very best of Japanese ingredients in the hands of a masterful team of chefs. The kitchen turns out some stunners, including the the signature Olive Beef - slow-roasted Shodoshima beef in a red wine and red pepper sauce - red snapper confit, and foie gras terrine. The Japanese attenuation to the seasons also makes itself clear in the ever-changing menus across the year, from bamboo shoots used in spring to ayu sweetfish in the summer.

It’s a fine dining restaurant in an upscale hotel, so there is a smart casual dress code - a dinner jacket is highly recommended - and unfortunately children under the age of 12 aren’t allowed in. Smoking is also not permitted here, which might make a nice change from all the izakaya pubs where smoking is typically allowed! It’s a great place to impress a very special person - or perhaps set the scene for a proposal.
