If you’re wandering around Shin-Umeda Shokudogai and wondering what to eat, Hanadako is an excellent choice. They nearly always have locals lining up for a taste of their famous negi-mayo takoyaki! Don’t worry if there’s a line, though: service is fast and efficient.

Shin-Umeda Shokudogai isn’t the easiest place for first-timers to navigate. There are over 100 restaurants to choose from in this labyrinth-like warren under the train tracks of JR Osaka Station. But one sure bet is Hanadako, one of the area’s best and most famous takoyaki shops.

Their classic sauce-and-mayonnaise takoyaki is good - the crust collapsing into a gooey, creamy, delicious puddle when bitten into. But what you’re really here for is the negi-mayo. This is a tray of takoyaki topped with a huge mound of lightly dehydrated sliced scallions and copious swirls of mayonnaise, so much of it that the takoyaki isn’t even visible. If you love negi and mayonnaise, this is the perfect snack for you.
Hanadako is located near one of the multiple entrances to this restaurant area; but also reasonably easy to spot because there is likely to be a queue at peak hours. Don’t be put off by long lines, though - service is fast and efficient, and besides, takoyaki is fast food of the highest, tastiest order. It’s worth a short wait.
