Having a late night out with friends around Dotonbori and need a place to eat when the party’s over? Yakitori at Torijiro on Dotonbori Arcade is just the ticket when hunger comes calling at 1am.

When you’re based in the heart of Osaka, sometimes you want to be able to stay out all night eating and drinking. Dotonbori Arcade is a pretty good place to do that. One late-night option to have on your radar is Torijiro, a yakitori chain restaurant where the chicken skewers are entirely serviceable. It’s open until 2am on most days, and until 5am on Fridays, Saturdays, and before national holidays.

Like a good yakitori restaurant worth its salt, there’s a decent variety of chicken parts to sample, and a few other interesting dishes like lotus root sandwiched with minced meat, and other nibbles like pickles, boiled eggs, salads, and gyoza. It’s all good drinking food. Everything is at a fixed price of JPY270 per dish, even their signature “Jumbo Jiroyaki” skewer measuring 21cm long, consisting of thigh and breast meat grilled with either tare sauce, salt, or garlic; or their other signature “Super Jumbo Kushi Pork Belly” skewer clocking in at 36cm. That’s pretty darn long. It’s also pretty budget-friendly!
The clean, brightly-lit Torijiro not the biggest restaurant around - it seats only around 20 people - but on the plus side, it’s not the kind of yakitori restaurant that’s mostly counter seats. Instead, you’ll be directed to booths that seat up to 4 or 5 people, so it’s a great place if you’re travelling and dining with other people rather than by yourself. It is also, all things considered, relatively child-friendly!
Torijiro is emphatically not the best yakitori restaurant you’ll ever eat at, but their cost-performance is pretty darn good, and being right on Dotonbori makes it a super-convenient choice for dinner.
