Hayata is a decent, small sushi restaurant very close to Honmachi Station. It’s a pretty good value and the fish is of good quality. Just be warned that this restaurant still allows smoking.

Sushi Hayata is popular with locals and tourists alike. Location-wise, it’s hard to beat - it’s right next to the St. Regis Hotel and Honmachi Station. It’s a charming and homey little restaurant with a steady stream of regulars coming in and out of the place. You’ll want to budget around JPY5,000 per head for a meal here.

They serve mainly nigiri-style sushi, the style most familiar to overseas customers. An added bonus is that there’s a (limited) English menu along with photos, so ordering isn’t really going to be difficult, especially if you stick with the set meals. If you do want to order individual pieces, it’s probably best to learn the names of some of your favorite fish before going - or point at whatever looks good on the next table! The Japanese menu also has a variety of grilled, vinegared, and simmered items on offer, so it’s probably useful if you have someone who can read a little Japanese in your party.
There are two downsides to this otherwise lovely little sushi restaurant. One is that it allows indoor smoking. The other is that it’s closed on weekends and public holidays, which is precisely when you think restaurants would be operating. Still, you’ll have a great meal if you’re there on a weekday.
