Osaka Station City

Surrounding JR Osaka Station, this huge shopping and dining complex offers an almost endless variety of things to buy and places to eat. You could very easily spend an entire day in here!

Those looking for shopping opportunities need look no further than Osaka Station City - a massive shopping and dining complex enveloping JR Osaka Station. Roughly divided into the North Gate and South Gate Buildings, those with plenty of retail stamina could potentially spend the entire day inside them and still not cover all that they have to offer.

The 28-story North Gate Building alone, for instance, contains two department stores - Lucua and Isetan - in addition to a cinema and a fitness club. The 10th and 11th floors are home to the charmingly-named ’Healing Garden’ and ‘Wind Plaza’ green spaces, where you can enjoy views of the north side of Osaka City. There’s even a Sky Farm where they grow fruits and vegetables - you’ll have to walk up some stairs, since it’s only accessible from the 11th floor.

The South Building, on the other hand, is home to the luxe Hotel Granvia Osaka, a clinic, and Daimaru Department store. Daimaru itself has plenty in the way of shops across 17 floors, including a Uniqlo and Tokyu Hands. There is also an excellent basement food hall with delicious snacks galore.

Families with kids - or even adults, let’s be real - will not want to miss the Pokemon Center for all your merchandise. Located on the 13th floor of Daimaru department store on the south side of the station, the store has literally anything and everything Pokemon-themed. A Pikachu bath mat or napkins? Capsule machines? You bet. There’s even a space for kids to play the Pokemon card game so tired parents can park their kids there and take a break from parenting.

Osaka Station’s architecture is also rather beautiful and striking. You’ll sometimes see photographers at the Toki no Hiroba plaza taking snapshots of the majestic glass roof. Toki no Hiroba is the bridge above the railway tracks that connects the north and south buildings, and it’s a great place to watch the trains arrive and depart below.
