For a casual but tasty yakitori dinner in comfortable surroundings, Kuruma Shinsaibashi Branch fits the bill. They use flavourful free-range chicken from Miyazaki, and have a variety of dishes from chicken sukiyaki to chicken sashimi in addition to the usual skewers.

A short walk away from Shinsaibashi Station is Kuruma Shinsaibashi Branch, a yakitori restaurant that’s pretty English-friendly (they have an English menu) and approachable for tourists. If you want to sample a wide range of chicken skewers and other dishes, this is an entirely respectable place to visit. Besides skewers, think dishes like smoky charcoal-grilled chicken thighs, deep-fried cartilage, and a tasty flavourful plate of avocado and chicken breast smothered in wasabi and soy sauce.

Like any good restaurant in Japan, they have a seasonal menu. So you’ll see some different items each time you go - a changing array of vegetables in the salad, for instance, or different grilled skewers like mushrooms in autumn.
The more adventurous might wish to tackle the chicken sashimi. Yes, it’s raw, and while it’s generally quite safe in Japan, the usual precautions apply! Another dish for the more daring is the chicken yukhoe. This is a chicken version of the Korean raw beef yukhoe. Think steak tartare with the raw egg yolk, but with Japanese-Korean shoyu-based seasonings. Those who love steak tartare will probably like this dish.
Strong drinkers might want to consider the all-you-can-drink course. Prices vary by branch, but for 90 - 120 minutes, you can order as many drinks as you can quaff along with your food. As you can imagine, it’s good value for money if you can hold your liquor!
