Konnichi-tei offers a casual take on a traditional ryo-tei style restaurant, offering up soba, udon, and other classic Japanese fare.

If you’re exploring the popular retro cafes and college student/hipster nexus of Nakazaki-cho and find yourself hungry from some traditional Japanese noodles, Konnichi-tei is your spot. The restaurant specializes in both soba and udon, served both hot and cold, with a full lineup of classic broth and serving options, teishoku sets, and sides and trimmings. The lunch menu in particular offers great value, with a rotating list of fresh seasonal specials.
I’m a big fan of cold soba, oyakodon, tempura, and curry udon. Konnichi-tei has them all, plus other great options like tori-katsu, katsu-toji – making this a particularly difficult menu for me to choose from. It also makes the restaurant a surefire can’t-miss option for those looking to indulge in this style of Japanese fare. Everything is great quality, with both satisfying portions and reasonable prices.
The restaurant’s ambience is modeled after the elegant formal ryotei style, though with a decidedly more casual, friendly, and down-home atmosphere. There is little to no English support, but this shouldn’t be considered too much of a roadblock as the staff are friendly and patient, and the menu includes lots of pictures. If you’re already familiar with this style of food, the menu also doesn’t pack any big shocks or twists.
