Umeda has its fair share of shopping malls, but HEP Five stands out for having a massive red Ferris wheel attached to its roof. The views from the ferris wheel are pretty spectacular, but unless you’re a serious shopaholic with a love for youthful fashion, Hep Five isn’t going to feel all that much different from the surrounding malls.

The striking red-and-white HEP Five building stands out even among Umeda’s numerous eye-catching structures, and that is in no small part due to the massive red Ferris wheel on its roof. HEP Five does have around 170 clothes shops and boutiques spread out over 6 floors, restaurants on the 7th floor, photo sticker booths on the 8th floor, and an arcade plus game machines of all kinds on the 9th floor. The clothing stores aren’t all that unique, and neither are the entertainment options, so the Ferris wheel is really HEP Five’s unique selling point.

If you’re heading up to the Ferris wheel, the entrance is located on the 7th floor. A circuit takes approximately 15 minutes, and at the highest point of around 106 meters above ground, you can see as far as Osaka Harbor. The night views from here are especially beautiful, and the whole wheel is illuminated at night.

Skip the commemorative photos at the Ferris wheel - you’ll pay JPY1,100 a pop - and head to the 8th floor to take some mugshots at the purikura photo sticker booths there. It’s far cheaper and you’ll have a great time with friends decorating your stickers.
